I am a graduate of United Local Schools, having attended here from Kindergarten through 12th grade! I began my college career at Bethany College in West Virginia. This school was affiliated with my church and my grandfather was a graduate of Bethany, as well. I started out as a psychology major, wanting to eventually be a child psychologist. I knew I wanted to work with children, so a very wise professor (who happened to be my advisor) thought I should give education a try to see if in fact working with children was what I really wanted. I was hooked! I realized this was the right path for me! I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education K-8 and Specific Learning Disabilities. I have a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Kent State University. I was hired at United as a Chapter 1 Math tutor for grades 4-6. Eventually I was hired as grades 2-4 Resource Room teacher. After 10 years in Special Education, I took a position as 3rd grade teacher where I stayed for 10 years. Finally, I made the move to 2nd grade. I work with the best 2nd grade team - Mrs. Joyce, Mrs. Sarchet, and Mrs. Phelps, who are the greatest. At the end of this year I will have been teaching for 27 years. Hard to believe!
I have been married for 25 years to Michael Shepard. We have a son who will be a senior and a daughter in 7th grade here at United, and we have a cat named Fozzie. We currently live in Salem, OH. One of my favorite things is spending time doing fun things with family, like going to visit relatives in Michigan in the summer. To celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, we took the kids on a cruise to St. Maarten, Puerto Rico, and Haiti on the 2nd largest ship in the world (currently) with Royal Carribbean International. It had 17 floors!
