Hello and welcome to United Local Schools!

I hope you will find the information about our school district and our activities on this web site useful to you. We are a very active school district, very proud of our students and our alumni. We believe that all children can be successful learners and our staff is dedicated to preparing our students for an ever changing and challenging world.
United Local is very fortunate to have attained both the district rating of Excellence and the rating of Excellence with Distinction at the Elementary for the 2008-2009 school year. However, our good fortune is the result from being committed EVERY year to providing the most excellent education we can give to our students.

An excellent education at United comes from these components:
A strong commitment from each staff member to believe in and to teach for mastery.
A strong commitment from parents and families to be a part of their child’s education.
A strong commitment from our bus drivers, custodians, secretaries, and cafeteria staff to provide for our students’ safety and needs.
A strong commitment from our students to assume responsibility for their learning.
A strong commitment from administrators to lead and facilitate everyone’s efforts.
A strong commitment from our community to support their schools and students.

This commitment to an excellent education is reflected in my favorite words “We are United!”

Mission Statement

The mission of the United Local School District is to assure that all children achieve their highest potential by providing and fostering education opportunities in a caring and safe environment. Our school district, which is the heart of our community, will work in partnership with students, teachers, families, and businesses to equip our students with academic, technological, and social skills. This will enable our students to build positive relationships and become responsible members of our global society.


Staff and parents may be notified of closures or upcoming events by the new district-wide call system. Whenever the weather is bad, staff, parents and students are asked to listen to one of the following radio stations: WSOM- 600 AM (Salem); Y103- 103 FM (Youngstown); WKBN- 570 AM (Youngstown); WICT Cat Country- 95.1 FM; or watch one of the following television stations: WJW-TV 8; WFMJ-TV 21 or WKBN-TV 27. No announcement about the United District on a given day means that schools are in session. If schools are to be closed, they will be closed one day at a time.
United Local School District is located approximately
10 miles south of Salem or 1 mile south of New Garden
on State Route #9.
