Checking Out Books:
-Books are checked out for 3 weeks at a time. They can be renewed 2 times after that, giving the student a total of 9 weeks to read the book. If that is still not enough time, Mrs. Ward can override the system allowing for more.
-Overdue and late fine notices are sent out approximately every 3 weeks and are sent to classroom teachers for dissemination. After the third notice, reminders are no longer sent to students.
-Fines are 10¢/day (excluding weekends and days school is not in session). However, if a book is turned in by the third late day, those 3 late days' fines are waived. Invoices are sent to the student and placed on his/her school account once the amount of $2.50 is reached. Notices are no longer sent out once an invoice has been sent.
-Fines never come off of a student account until they are either paid or worked off.
-Middle school students have 2 intervention periods/day from which they can come to the library to take care of library materials. They may also stop in during their lunch period or before school starts each day.
-If a student loses, damages or has a book stolen, he/she is responsible for paying to have it replaced. Mrs. Ward will search for the best replacement cost, including shipping and processing.
-Accountability and communication are essential! Please see Mrs. Ward anytime there is a question or concern. Parents, please encourage your student to communicate with Mrs. Ward directly himself/herself. Many issues that come up in the library can be easily solved with a little communication.
-We have almost 7,000 books in our library which can make finding the right one a little difficult. To help you narrow your search, you can first go to our online catalog to see if we have what you want.
- The card catalog can be accessed two ways and from there, you have many search options:
1. Chromebooks have bookmarks, laptops have a desktop icon labeled “INFOhio Online…”
2. The other is through the high school website. From there, go to Teacher Web Pages, then scroll down to
my name, Denise Ward. Once on my page, click on Library Resources on the left.
-Both of these will take you to the Isearch page. Enter your search terms to open up all of the search options. If you don’t know what you want to start with, just enter any word to open up the search options.
To look at just United’s library, make sure that the “My Library” tab in the top left is clicked. If you don’t know what book you want, but you like a certain genre, scroll down on the left to where it says “Item Genre”, click the genre box you like, then click Include to pull up all the titles we have in that particular genre.
-You can access our new eBook collection by clicking on the Google icon labeled “Sora” on your laptops. Sora is also bookmarked on Chromebooks.
